Executive Functioning
How Julia’s study in the topic will help your child.
Every couple of years I do workshops with Sarah Ward of Cognitive Connections. I consider her a guru of Executive Function skills. I have found in my work that most kids, not all, have some level of Executive Function issues. We’ve all needed to learn these skills: organization, time management, paper flow, not forgetting things, being fully prepared for school, engaging in activities, etc… There are some students I do solely Executive Function work with. I think it is a nice complimentary perk for my students.
While problem-solving is broad enough to not always be an issue, having troubles with basic problem-solving skills can be a symptom of Executive Function Disorder. From the mathematics of all varieties and degrees to understanding the relations of a large number of variables, there is a huge variety of problem-solving that can fall under this umbrella. My expertise in this subject will not only help your student in mathematics, but in almost every other walk of life. While growth in math is my main goal, my students grow in other classes as well with my tutoring.
