Learning Differences
Julia’s expertise with different learning differences will help your child, whether they have a learning difference or not.
I have a strong affinity for teens with ADHD, and some other learning differences. We connect well. This is another reason for my Executive Function skills training. My dynamic and kind energy works well with this group. They respond well to the genuine positive support that I provide, lack of shame, and patience. Together, and possibly with information the parent provides me about the student’s learning differences, we figure out how the student best processes information: If they are an auditory or visual learner. If they need to work ahead with the concepts and learn from the inside out.
Often what I find is that Common Core Math is difficult for students with Learning Differences, so I will teach the concepts from the traditional deductive process instead of the inductive process they are learning at school. We find successful strategies for students. That may include different types of reviews, starting finals review three weeks before finals due to the student not retaining the semester well, lots of repetition. Also, not exhausting the student and keeping a balance.
I’m great at hand-holding for anxiety. I show them their successes in their work, give them lots of positive reinforcement, and prepare them with knowledge. I am always available for anxiety. I want to be there for them. I love doing test prep, and I think preparation is the best way to manage anxiety. I am kind and supportive with anxiety too. I love to make practice tests with my students, and narrow down any areas they may need further review on after our session.
